This weekend sees nearly 200 players take part in a competition at Limerick Airsoft Camp, with the primary aim of the day’s gaming being integration of the players from the different communities who play airsoft in Ireland. This event is being organised by the sizeable Filipino community in order to show that it is possible, and desirable, for all the various groups within airsoft to get together and play amongst each other in a fun and rewarding way.

This is an idea that we in the IAA welcome, and we would encourage all players to go along to this event and take part.

Registration starts at 06:00 with game start at 09:00 (July 31)
The fee for the day is €25, which also includes lunch

More info at the LAC forum and boards.ie

We require a supporting identification document (scan or photo of Passport, Driving Licence, National ID card, Garda Age Card, GNIB card or similar) as part of our membership application process.

This is used only to verify the name, age and photo of the applicant. We do not keep the supporting document on file.

We’ve always been very strict with the security of our member’s information, and in January 2010 we tightened up the process even more. The document is photographed, we remove* the serial number and then we upload it to our online membership system. Once the name, age and photo have been checked the original image or document provided by the applicant is destroyed.

As a further security precaution, we also removed* the serial numbers from all supporting ID images uploaded to our online membership system before January 2010. In the case of Driving Licences, both the document serial number and the Driver Number are deleted.

* Not blanked out, not fuzzed, not obscured. It’s deleted.

If you have any questions or comments about the application process, please email info@irishairsoft.ie

Bernard Lyons has been co-opted as Secretary (pro-tem). We’ve started planning for Salute, and we hope that our presence will be even bigger and better than last year.

The Irish Airsoft Association is very happy to welcome new affiliate, Quality Airsoft Supplies, located in Carlow. After visiting the shop with IAA Chair, Richard Smith, we presented Michal and Charlie with their certificate of affiliation and had a good look around the shop for any new toys.
Quality Airsoft Supplies is a new venture in Carlow, but the boys have been around the scene for quite a while, doing performance upgrades, repairs, etc.
While they have been doing a thriving small scale retail business, they have definitely taken things to the next level with their new retail shop. The place looks great, the guys know their stuff, and it has a little something for every level of airsofter. There is even a “pre loved “section for second hand gear.

Michal, Charlie, and Dawid have really done their best to make their business a great place for airsofters of any experience level to buy gear, get advice, or just hang out.

The IAA welcomes Quality Airsoft Supplies into the network of approved retailers and wishes them the best for 2010.

IAA Update

Since taking their positions, the IAA committee have had a busy time. Here is a roundup on whats been going on.

In November, we assisted Take Aim magazine in running the much anticipated Take Aim Cup at Irelands newest airsoft site, Moyvalley Adventure Zone. The site is amazing and promises to be a huge attraction to airsofters everywhere, particularly the cqb area. The competition was won by Kosa in a hotly contested battle in the final on the Sunday evening.
We also filled the remaining positions on the committee that hadn’t been filled at the agm.
Enrico Pobre has been appointed the to position of treasurer. Enrico is a past president of FRAG and is one of the most respected members of the philipino airsoft community.
Declan Duffy has been appointed to the position of secretary. Declan was very active with IASRA prior to this and held the position of chairman. Declan has a wealth of experience and ability to bring to the table and he will be a huge asset to the IAA.

In December we saw a lot of queries regarding the upcoming personal importation ban of RIFs, due to the fact that the original suggested implementation date was Jan 1 2010. This date came and went with no ban implemented. We are currently in contact with the DoJ, and as soon as we get further information, we will pass it on to you.
We also operated a mass sign-up day in conjunction with MIA and we got an extra 50 members who patiently queued and signed up. This was an interesting experience as it allowed us to meet and talk with prospective members before they signed up. We hope to do something similar again in the future.
Around this time we also found out that PJT Insurance had ceased trading. This was a concern as the previous committee had negotiated preferential insurance rates for affiliates through PJT. We contacted all affiliates and advised them of the situation and also how to check that their insurance policies were still valid. The good news is that no affiliated sites were operating uninsured.
We are currently negotiating with two seperate brokers to see where we can get best value for our affiliates and also our members. As soon as negotiations conclude, we will let you know.

January was a quiet month, and unfortunately we saw the warehouse close its doors for good. The guys are already working on their next venture, and from the initial photos, it looks like its going to be a very popular site.
At present, we are working with two prospective new sites who wish to open up for business and we are actively assisting them in any way we can.
This time of year is always challenging as we don’t get as many players out due to weather etc. but we are encouraged to see that we will have even more affiliates come onboard over the coming weeks.

As always, we can be contacted by email at info@irishairsoft.ie
